Hello and welcome to the Alton u3a website.
Founded in 1982, u3a is a UK-wide movement of locally run interest groups that provide a wide range of opportunities to come together and learn for fun. Our branch in Alton has been on the go since 1994. We are one of more than 1,000 branches nationally with over 430 thousand members.
Is u3a for you?
You are retired or semi-retired, or perhaps raising your family is behind you.
You have some spare time and want to meet other like-minded friends.
You would like to take up new hobbies or interests, and to keep learning.
You have knowledge and interests of your own and would like to share these with others.
Alton u3a has more than forty different activity groups so there is something for everyone. Some groups such as Rambling, Cycling and Birdwatching get you out and about; others, for example, Listening to Jazz or Art Appreciation, let you relax with friends; while you can learn or practise activities with Choir, Embroidery and Guitar. And there are so many more to choose from.
We are a registered charity, so seek no profit, and the fees charged for a season reflect only the costs incurred in running our branch.
If you are thinking of joining and would like to meet some of us first for a chat don’t forget the monthly coffee mornings – you will find details on this site. In addition, our monthly Friday Afternoon Talks are open to everyone, members and non-members alike. You will be very welcome!
