Chess

The Chess Group

We are a friendly bunch who meet once a month and play chess at a beginner/intermediate level. We don’t simply play games in pairs, in silence for 2 hours, but do a variety of activities associated with chess.

-Chess video lessons

We watch short video lessons to improve strategy.

– Solving chess problems

We use a large chess demonstration board to analyse chess positions and solve chess problems.

– Whole class games v computer.

The whole class engages in a game against the computer. The chess board is projected as a large image and we discuss best moves as we pit ourselves against our opponent, the computer!

– Game play

Play a game against another member of the group either during the meeting or online in the intervening time between meetings via chess.com.

Beginners are welcome and one of the group will take you through the moves and principles of chess.

No equipment is necessary, we have several chess sets and books that can be borrowed.

Do give the Chess Group a go, to find out more, come and chat to us on Registration Day.
